Tuesday 8th June

Lift off day - minus 6

Sunday is the actual ride off day from San Francisco, Wednesday is for flying and landing, Thursday is to get the bike, refreshments and acclimatisation, ditto Friday and Saturday, although I’ll already have my bike so maybe there will be a bit more time for the other 2 objectives!

Tuesday afternoon we drove through horrendous rain down the M1 and headed to Heathrow.
I arrived at The Arora Hotel and Terminal 3 was in sight just across the road.

Not exactly wildlife noises to appreciate out of the window, all night.

Terminal 3 is the gateway to 4 weeks and 4000 miles of iron butt riding (sensitive men and ladies take note of the benefits later) – and more of how I will combat this is to come in the near future, under the heading “My Angels Hands”.

I may wander off during this trip into ramblings about beer, food and the bars / restaurants that serve it up, because such stuff, is what allows me to be here!!!.
Drink and food and the people and places that provide these pleasures will certainly make up a large part of my trip, that along with music and the riding, which will speak for itself. But beware, it was reading stuff like that made me get back onto two wheels after being perfectly stable (be quiet at the back) on 4 wheels for more than 20 years. The wind in your face, the flies in your teeth, hmm not such a pretty picture is it.

I have many songs prepared for this momentous trip, first up and probably to be played on the plane after take off (I don’t like that part and I don’t have my beloved’s hand to hold) is Happy Birthday by Stevie Wonder, MY birthday, that is the excuse / reason for this challenge.
I could have had Leaving on a Jet Plane by Peter Paul and Mary, I think, but that would age me and frankly embarrass me so enough said about that.

Back to the hotel, I had a Wi Fi nightmare that cost me £6 and then had this menu experience – can you see theme developing?

it seemed to set my YorkshireManRadar off…….

So as the menu instructed, I mentioned to the waitress that I had an intolerance to Service Charges and especially “Discretionary” one’s, and, if my limited Lithuanian hasn’t let me down, I think she said as she walked away quickly ,“that is perfectly Ok sir, I will deduct it from your bill immediately”, so no harm done there then.

A plate full of Teriyaki Salmon and Basmati Rice later and back to the room to Skype the family, hopefully there wont be any tears this time, gosh I was upset this morning……………………

Enuff fo nah.
